Public Housing Frequently Asked Questions
When is my portion of rent due?
Rent under the Public Housing Program must be received on or before the 5th calendar day of the month. All payments received by the housing authority after the 5th day are subject to a $15 late fee.
Who is responsible for maintaining the lawn and snow removal?
With the exception of the tenants at Furl Williams Apartments, the tenants are responsible for the upkeep of the lawn and snow removal.
Are pets permitted?
A pet may be permitted of the animal is registered and approved by the housing authority in accordance with our pet policy. See your caseworker for description of our pet policy.
Are pools permitted?
Pools and trampolines are not permitted on any public housing property.
Are security deposits required?
Security deposits are determined by the amount of rent the tenant is responsible for paying. However, there is a $200 minimum requirement. Payment arrangements can be made in regard to the amount owed.
What is flat rent?
Flat rent is the maximum the housing authority can charge in rent for the unit. Be aware that other fees may apply such as maintenance fees and balances owed on deposits.
If I am approved, can I select me own unit to rent from the housing authority?
No, the housing authority offers the first available unit to the tenant. The tenant may turn down this unit and wait for the next available unit to become available. If the tenant turns down the second unit, his/her application will be returned to the waiting list without preference and the application date will be changed to reflect the day the second unit was turned down.
